A parent and child pausing on a clifftop above the Atlantic on the Fishermen's Trail

Hiking Adventure · Portugal

One parent.
One child.
One trail.

A guided hike on the Fishermen's Trail in Portugal for one parent and one child. You walk the coast, carry your own tent, and get a few days that are just about the two of you.

A day in the life

Just the two of you, on one of Europe's most beautiful coasts

Fancy an adventure with your child, just the two of you? Come along on a five-day hike in Portugal. In a small group of parent and child pairs, we walk about 45 kilometres of the Fishermen's Trail down the southwest coast. We carry our tents, mats, sleeping bags, food and water, cook our own dinner at night and sleep under the stars. We arrange everything and walk with you the whole way. You just come, walk, and enjoy it.

The heart of it

The three pillars of Two in the Tent

One parent. One child.

One parent. One child.

This hike is built for one parent and one child. No brothers or sisters, no distractions, no attention split three ways. Walking side by side, the real conversations come out, and so do the easy silences. Your child gets you to themselves for a few days, and you get to be properly there for them.

One trail.

One trail.

The Fishermen's Trail isn't just a backdrop. It's the whole point. Day after day you walk the coast together, dealing with the wind, the distance and the rhythm of the path. There isn't much to it, and that's what makes it work: you talk, you keep going, you get there together.

One tent.

One tent.

Each pair carries their own tent and pitches it side by side at the end of the day. Putting up camp together is its own small lesson in pulling your weight. The tent becomes the place where you wind down, talk over the day and fall asleep tired. A lot of the good stuff happens right there.

Put those three together and you get a trip that's simple, a little demanding, and hard to forget.

Why we do this

The adventure is the means. The connection is the goal.

Everyday life is full: work, school, sport, phones that keep buzzing. Time alone with your child, with nothing else pulling at you, is hard to come by. On the trail it just happens. The talking starts on its own. You laugh, you grumble a bit, you help each other over the tricky parts. Slowly the noise in your head settles and there's room for each other again. And kids aren't just along for the ride. Give them the chance and they'll carry their own pack, watch the path, sort out small problems and feel properly proud when you reach camp.

A five-day hike, a six-day programme

1
Day 1

Welcome

Arrive around 15:00 at the campsite, put up the tents together, and gather round the fire for soup and sandwiches. We introduce ourselves and say a bit about why we do this.

2
Day 2–4

Walking the trail

Pack up, have breakfast, and walk roughly 12 to 15 km a day along the coast. Reach the next campsite, pitch the tents, cook, eat, mess about and sleep.

3
Day 5

The final stretch

One last day's walk into Porto Covo, a campsite with a pool. We celebrate with a BBQ and hand out a little 'diploma' for making it.

Day 6

Farewell

Breakfast, hand back the camping gear, and head home with tired legs and stories you'll be telling for years.
